Kala Gallery is run by Katie Hanson (buyer & admin) and Mark Gibson ( website and absolutely everything else!) and is based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Mark and Katie met when working together at a music venue and went to India for the first time together in 2007. Mark has an ongoing love affair with India and had been many times before and so was the perfect guide.

With our combined past work experience and need for an excuse to revisit India as often as can be got away with, it was inevitable that Kala Gallery was created.

‘Kala’ means ‘fine art’ in Hindi and it is our objective to source the best quality art and crafts at source for resale in the UK.

The western market is saturated with colourful but mass produced Indian imports and the same products have become commonplace in many European towns. Anyone who has tried it will know how hard it is to find unique, good quality but affordable items on the internet other than the rather dubious and expensive Indian ‘antiquities’ on E-Bay.

I manage and run the KalaGallery online store.

I have been traveling to India and east Asia for 13 years, making my first trip on my 21st birthday, my love for India and it’s people and culture grows stronger as years pass by.

I have made many friends on my travels through India and had some of the most amazing experiences, from beach parties in goa to visiting Buddhas’ cave. One of my favorite places in India has to be Pushkar, I travelled there on my first trip to India and fell in love with it, returning 10 years later with my son on a two month trip.

I have worked in the retail/public sector for 16 years and with this experience and my love for Indian art and textiles we can guarantee you the best quality and service every step of the way.
